KAY JOHNSTON

 

Kay draws from her experiences as an observer and participant of the powwow to help the reader better understand this unique festival of native Indian spirit. She has worked in the education and training fields as a writer, educator and consultant for public education programming on such issues as health, safety, career and personal planning. Much of her time and energy has gone to working with youth as a Counsellor and advocate. Kay is retired from working for a pay cheque to follow a full time writing career.

GLORIA NAHANEE

 

Gloria initiated the revival of the powwow for the Squamish Nation in North Vancouver, British Columbia after a period of non-activity of thirty years. She chairs the committee that organizes this huge three day event each year. Gloria is a Traditional Dancer and travels extensively throughout North America to attend various powwow festivals. Gloria developed and taught the Chan Es7a7awts program at Eslhan7an, a very successful program designed for Squamish Nation youth experiencing difficulty at school. Gloria refers to Kay as the pen and herself as the feather. The two friends have worked together on various projects for Squamish youth.
